From Samara
In my last Parent Bulletin email of the school year, I included a virtual vacation of Jewish Museums across the United States. I thought that the rest of the congregation would enjoy taking this “trip” as well, so I am sharing it with you. All the web addresses for the various museums are at the bottom of this article; please see the “From Samara” section of the “Education and Study” part of the CBI website for a copy of this article that includes the links directly. I hope you have a wonderful “trip”!
Our trip starts in Philadelphia with the National Museum of American Jewish History[1]. Next we go to New York City to the Jewish Museum of New York[2], the Tenement Museum[3] and Ellis Island[4]. From NY we go to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum[5] and the Hebraica and Judaica Collection at the Library of Congress[6]. We travel south to Atlanta for the Bremen Museum[7] and conclude our East Coast tour with a trip to Miami for the Jewish Museum of Florida[8]. From the East Coast we go across the country to Los Angeles for the Skirball Cultural Center[9] and the Zimmer Children’s Museum[10]. We move up the coast to San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum[11]. On our way back towards the Mid-West, we stop in Denver for the Mizel Museum[12] and in Tulsa for the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art[13]. We stop in Chicago for the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies[14] and the new Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center[15]. Our virtual vacation ends in Milwaukee with the Jewish Museum Milwaukee[16] (which is easily visited in person 6 days a week). I hope you enjoy your virtual vacation! If you are actually traveling to any of these locations, be sure to visit the museums in person! |
